Banned Books Week Discussions
Join us for a lively discussion of banned books and the importance of the freedom to read.
During Banned Books Week (October 1-7, 2023), we celebrate the freedom to read and spotlight current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. For more than 40 years, this annual event has brought together the entire book community — librarians, teachers, booksellers, publishers, writers, journalists, and readers alike — to uphold the First Amendment and protect our right to read whatever we choose. At these discussion events for current students and staff, we will explore why books are banned, the impact of book banning on readers, and how we can all stand up for the freedom to read. We will also discuss some of the most challenged books of recent years and why they are so important. Whether you're a lifelong reader or just curious about the issue of book banning, we encourage you to join us for this important conversation.
