About the Lake Land College Library: Circulation Procedures

Work in Progress

This page is a work in progress. If you have any questions that aren't answered from it yet, please send suggestions to libcirc@lakelandcollege.edu.

Library Cards

With a library card, patrons can check out library materials, and also use the Libby and Cloud Library apps to check out ebooks, e-magazines, and e-audiobooks. A library card doesn't allow access to online databases--those are only available to current staff and students using their Laker ID.

Students/Staff - Your Laker ID is your library card! If you don't have it, take your Photo ID to the Bookstore in the Student Center.

Residents of the Lake Land College District - Residents of the Lake Land College district who are not currently students, faculty, or staff and who are at least 18 years of age are eligible to obtain a Community Borrower Card.

  • Bring a photo ID and a piece of mail proving residency in the district to the Library Circulation Desk to receive your card. Cards are valid for one year from the date of issue. Cards may be renewed annually if patron is in good standing.
  • Any materials in the general circulating collection may be checked out and items from other libraries may be requested. Libby and Cloud Library apps may be used, but student databases may only be used on campus at open workstations.
  • The cost is free. However, cardholders are fully responsible for all library materials checked out on their card, including replacement cost of materials and any processing fees charged by other libraries. Failure to pay any library fines, fees or charges will result in the loss of library privileges. Past due accounts may be turned over to a collection agency.

Reciprocal Borrowing

Our library does NOT participate in reciprocal borrowing because we are an academic library. In Illinois, reciprocal borrowing means the right of a person who holds a valid, in-good-standing library registration card from a full member public library to borrow materials on site from other library system full member public libraries under the same conditions that the library that provides those materials to its patrons.

However, eligible library materials may be interlibrary loaned to patrons through IHLS and OCLC. Community members may access databases at the public access computers in the library.
