Online Databases
Our library subscribes to more than 40 online databases that offer access to 30,000 periodical titles. They contain the full text of articles from thousands of print sources such as magazines, newspapers, journals, and reference books, and they are all available through our website.
You can find links to our databases on the Databases page. These databases can be accessed from off-campus by any Lake Land student, faculty, or staff. To use them you will need to log in using your Laker Hub login and password.
Books and Audio-Visual Items
The Mattoon campus library has more than 30,000 books and about 1,700 videos, DVDs, CDs and recorded books. You will need a library card in order to check out or request books and AV items. You can get a library card by coming to the library Circulation Desk with your student ID or another form of photo ID.
You can search for books and audio-visual items at Lake Land using SHARE, our online catalog (located on the library website.) SHARE allows you to search the collections of about 400 libraries in the Illinois Heartland Library System. You can also check your account, renew items, and download e-books through SHARE. If your school is also in the SHARE system, you can have items delivered directly to you. If you’re not in SHARE, you may be able to order books from your local system. Check with your school librarian.
Online Research Guides
The library also has plenty of online tutorials to help your students find, use, evaluate, and cite sources. Additional resources for teachers can also be found on our For Instructors page.
The librarian can provide individual help for finding information or using the library. The librarian is generally available from 8 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday and can be reached by email or phone. (See Contacts to the left.)
The Librarian is also available to visit your school. If you would like a librarian to give your students an introduction to our library or how to do research, see our Library Instruction page for more details.
